| Aligi Sassu in Sorrento |
![]() July 15, Friday, at 7 p.m., in Villa Fiorentino halls, in Sorrento, it will be opened the art exhibition “Aligi Sassu Mediterraneo”, promoted by Sorrento Administration and Sorrento Foundation and edited by the architect Marisa Zattini in collaboration with the artist’s son Carlos Julio Sassu Suarez. A bodied number of works, more than 80, that embrace the period going from 1930 to 1997, have been organized inside the halls of this prestigious expositive center by the architect Augusto Pompili. It’s about pictures, sculptures, pottery, drawings, theatre sketches coming from Aligi Sassu Archives and from some private collections. In these works, the protagonist is the Mediterranean, conceived as the main place of his imagination, landscape of the soul where the roots of a Greek-Latin culture drop. It’s about the emotional intensity of the beloved Sardinian land, of Sicily, of Mallorca that finds ideal transposition in the colourful power of Aligi Sassu, in that chromatic vital richness that stands out his papers, his canvas and all his fertile ceramic production. “If we think that the Mediterranean myth covered almost all European culture concerning painting, sculpture, poetry, music and architecture, undoubtedly our artist is one of its greatest performers – Zattini explains – Aligi Sassu is, in fact, one of the most important protagonists of XX Century Italian art that lived completely the “Mediterreanity” because of the primitive energy that he instilled in his whole work; because of his obsessive depth and research of beauty that this artist had along the way, because of the strenght and the constancy the artist expressed and developed in all his life, a jubilation of movement and creative vigour. A visionary artist who explored and interpreted at best, through his own artistic research, that “Mediterranean and mythic” dimension, seen and lived as the allegory par excellence of man “theatrum mundi”. The art exhibition, the admission to which is free, will be opened to the public till September 25 with the following visiting time: Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 9 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the closing time is extended till 10 p.m. Info 0818782284. |
